“I fished two days with Captain Greg out of Barnegat Inlet in early November 2020. I take a guide’s measure by the fast days and the slow. We had one of each. Greg’s expertise, his knowledge of the area, and tactics were always evident. His excitement for the fishing and the success of his guests is contagious and didn’t fade even on the slow day. His angst when the fishing is off doesn’t morph to grumpy guide syndrome, but because he genuinely cares, he clearly suffers what all good guides suffer on a slow day. While some guides are out for their own glory, Greg is clearly focused on the success of his guests, something he’s quite able to deliver. When I was the lone angler, he totally lit up every time I hooked up. When we were both fishing, he got excited when he hooked up, but even more excited when I did. He loves the work and does it very, very well. He’s a hell of a lot of fun, too.”
One of many striped bass Tom caught aboard Fish Head Charters in the Fall of 2020. “The perfect 70 degree air fall day with acres of bass chasing bait to the surface. It couldn’t have been better. Numerous bass in the 30 and 38 inches range, with a couple double ups, all released.” Tom Ohaus is a native of New Jersey who wandered far and wide chasing fish. He eventually ended up in Sitka, Alaska where he founded Angling Unlimited, a lodge and guide service that targets salmon and halibut on the ocean. He’s been guiding on the North Pacific for 33 years.
